Our Mission

We want to STOP the flow of plastic into the Pacific and Indian Oceans by recovering and reusing plastic continuously.

What makes the Asia-Pacific region different from more established recycling markets, is what unites us - the recyclate supply and demand challenges in regional context (lack of recycling infrastructure and reliance on informal workers for waste management).

To achieve our mission, ASPA is focused on delivering three things.

01

APAC relevant PCR CERTIFICATION for APAC

02

APAC focused Packaging Design Guide

03

ASPA - this region's CE solutions-focused forum

What we do

Having formed in late 2022, ASPA membership spans Australia, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Viet Nam. Based on the principle of infinite (as near as possible) use and reuse of as many plastics as possible, ASPA's first priorities are to:

  • provide learning opportunities for Asia-Pac businesses to understand and operate in the new circular economy market

  • represent the region as a whole, providing context and balance in global standards setting

  • establish plastic recycling standards appropriate for Asia-Pac that fits with the quality standards of export markets such as the EU and US

  • support plastic industry recycling growth through collaboration, education, tools, guides, and   market-enabling standards.

Regional Context & Perspective

Waste plastic that enters the environment causes harm.

For this reason alone, we applaud the work being undertaken in Europe, UK and Nth America to forge plastic circular economies - to prevent plastic becoming waste by reusing the material for equal or greater economic value.

The need to Plastic Circular Economy is universal.

Unfortunately, while we all share the aspiration of cirularity, the underlying fundamentals for the Asia-Pacific region are dramatically different to Europe, UK and Nth America -  infrastructure, regulation, consumer attitudes, business development, reliance on the informal sector, etc.

ASPA has formed to ensure regional contextualising of circular economy principles and practices - global viewpoint with local perspective.
